Contact your U.S. Representative - Oppose HR 800! (2/21/2007)

There's something taking place in Washington, DC that could dramatically and negatively impact hundreds of lodging properties throughout the state.

Legislation, (HR 800), has been introduced in the House which would eliminate an employee's right to cast a private ballot to decide whether or not to join a union and which union to join.

The right to privacy in such votes has been extended to employees since the National Labor Relations Act was originally enacted in 1935.

The privacy of elections have been at the foundation of American democracy. Such confidentiality is granted voters in local, state and federal elections, and should be maintained here as well.

Whereas protected elections currently allow workers to vote for union representation free from employer, union, or coworker coercion, under the provisions of HR 800, the signing of authorization cards is not private and invites intimidation and manipulation.

Urge your U.S. Congressman to refuse to cosponsor and to vote against HR 800!
